European Regulation for competitive freight enters into force: The regulation (EU) 913/2010 concerning a European rail network for competitive freight was published on 20 October 2010 in the EU Official Journal and entered into force on 9 November. It sets out rules for the establishment and the modification of freight corridors, their organisation, governance and implementation as well as for investment planning, and capacity and traffic management. Member states of Corridor C are asked to make operational within a frame of 3 years.

Rotterdam Business Conference: On June 14th, 2010 ten European Transport Ministers have reinforced and confirmed their intent to cooperate in the development of European rail freight corridors and let them grow together to networks. The ministers have signed a declaration where the Corridor C is extended to Rotterdam. Therefore, the new itinerary of the Corridor C is described as Rotterdam-Antwerp-Basel/Lyon.

The European Commission and the European railway organisations sign a second Memorandum of Understanding. They agree to consolidate mutual collaboration and to speed up the implementation of ERTMS.

10 December 2008

The European Commission allocates Corridor C subsidies for the 2007-2013 period: 78.5 million euros for the development of infrastructure and 8.6 million euros for rolling stock.

24 October 2007

The Swiss infrastructure manager SBB joins the EEIG. As Switzerland is not a member of the European Union the entry is effectuated by means of an association agreement.

16 March 2007

Infrastructure managers from France, Belgium and Luxembourg sign a cooperation agreement. They establish a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG). Karel Vinck, coordinator of the ERTMS project, represents the European Commission.

9 June 2006

The four ministers of Transport of France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland sign a Letter of Intent to introduce ERTMS in Corridor C.

17 March 2005

The European Commission and the European railway organisations (*) sign a Memorandum of Understanding. They aim to install the uniform safety system ERTMS on 6 large European corridors.

(*) The signing organisations are: Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER), European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM), International Union of Railways (IU) and European Rail Industry (UNIFE).
